Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, announced Thursday that he will not be running for president in 2020. And he says his "Dignity of Work" tour has accomplished that because numerous candidates in the race are now talking more about those issues.
Brown said on Thursday that he would continue to listen to those concerns from voters and pledged to "keep calling out Donald Trump and his phony populism". "I look forward to going back to the Senate where I think I can be most effective".
If Brown had gotten into the race, he would have had to come up with millions of dollars to compete in what looks to be a huge primary field. He recently finished his tour of the early-primary states - Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and SC - and as recently as the weekend hinted that he was going to jump in. "That's why I'm confident it will continue to be a focus for Democrats in 2020, and I plan on making sure that happens", Brown said in a release.
Brown won re-election previous year in OH, a state Trump carried in 2016 by more than eight percentage points. Brown was comfortably re-elected in the November midterm elections, earning almost 10 percentage points more than Hillary Clinton did two years prior.
Not only are other candidates starting to talk about the dignity of work, voters across the country are demanding it. In the past few days, former First Lady, Secretary of State and the 2012 Democratic nominee, Hillary Clinton, has said she wouldn't run this time around. Democrats are awaiting word from former vice president Joe Biden and former Texas Rep. Beto O'Rourke about whether they will undertake highly anticipated campaigns that could reshape the race.

"I fight best when I bring joy to the battle", he told home-state reporters.
Brown is now one of four Democrats who have announced in the last week that they would not run for President in 2020.
Brown had been seen as a strong potential candidate to challenge Trump in 2020, since he's got an image of a populist in a battleground state that Trump won in 2016.
