Consumer Reports says it will no longer recommend the Model 3 due to the reliability issues. Citing "reliability issues", Consumer Reports relays that it found a number of problems pertaining to hardware along with fit and finish issues. It found, after a survey of 500,000 vehicle owners, that the auto was one of several that showed "declining reliability". Those issues led to both Tesla and Chrysler plummeting 11 places in the Consumer Reports vehicle brand rankings.
It said the survey was conducted from July through September, "so the vast majority of these issues have already been corrected through design and manufacturing improvements, and we are already seeing a significant improvement in our field data".
Tesla publicly sparred with CR in 2017 after the magazine predicted "average reliability" for the Model 3 despite having very little survey information since the sedan had just begun shipping.
The publication gets its reliability data in part from a survey it sends to members every spring - it considered responses from the owners of about 500,000 vehicles.
"In most cases, reliability issues will undermine satisfaction", Fisher pointed out.
