According to reports, the fire broke out at Hotel Arpit Palace on the Gurudwara Road in Karol Bagh around 4 am.
According to the fire department, they received a call at around 4.35 am about the incident following which 24 fire tenders were rushed to the spot.It took almost four hours for them to douse the fire that had swept through all the floors of the five-storey building which had a terrace kitchen in violation of rules.
The blaze was brought under control around 7 am.
Among the dead in the fire incident were a child and a woman who tried to escape inferno by jumping through a window in the hotel room they occupied.
Three of those killed were members of a family who had traveled to India's capital from Kerala in southern India to attend a wedding, family friend Arvind Vishwanathan said outside a hospital mortuary. Those injured have been sent to hospital.
Around 25 people have been rescued so far.
