Vacant NFL head coaching positions across the league are quickly filling up. In eight games with Kitchens as OC, Mayfield threw for 2,254 yards, 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions and was sacked just five times.
It's a spectacular rise for Kitchens, who began the season as the team's running backs coach.
Kitchens, 44, interviewed with the Browns on Monday, and interim head coach Gregg Williams also interviewed for the job last week.
The Browns declined multiple requests from teams to interview Kitchens for offensive coordinator openings last week and now Kitchens gets to live his dream of leading his own team as a head coach.
