"The target for Russian retaliation won't be USA territory but the countries where the intermediate-range missiles are deployed", Russian General Staff Chief Valery Gerasimov said, a day after the Trump administration said it is preparing to withdraw from the 30-year-old Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF).
The secretary of state also said the USA had talked to the Russians "a great deal", and while Washington was "hopeful" Moscow would change course, U.S. officials didn't see indications that would happen.
"The United States announced that the Russian Federation had violated the provisions of (the INF Treaty), and will stop performing its obligations under the Treaty, if Russia within 60 days will not return to its full execution", said Pompeo at a press conference of NATO in Brussels."The German government welcomes the fact that the American government is giving its preservation another chance", she added, referring to the 60-day deadline. Russian Federation says the range of the new system does not exceed 310 miles. The treaty is set to expire in 2021, but Russian Federation has expressed an interest in having it renewed. Also, the U.S.is threatening to pull out of the deal only after NATO determined that Putin was already in violation, so Russian Federation has already effectively abandoned the treaty.

Mr Pompeo warned Russia's actions "greatly undermine America's national security and that of our allies". Russia's response will depend on the place of their deployment - if Europe, then we will deploy our complexes at our western borders, and if Asia, it means that Russian missiles will be on the Asian territory of the Russian Federation. Moscow says it's complying with the deal.
