Firebrand Senator and potential 2020 candidate Elizabeth Warren officially released her DNA results Monday morning; effectively ending years of speculation surrounding her unsubstantiated claims of her Native American ancestry.
As Warren raises her national profile, Trump has returned more often to ridiculing her as "Pocahontas" in public speeches.
Warren acknowledged that she had identified herself as a minority in a legal directory for almost a decade, and she was listed as a Native American in federal forms filed by the law schools at Harvard University and University of Pennsylvania where she worked, The Boston Globe reported in 2012. A series of law school administrators and professors who took part in her hiring repeatedly dismiss that claim as nonsense, just as they did in a comprehensive debunking of the falsehood published last month by The Boston Globe, which was given access to Warren's personnel files.
Carlos D. Bustamante, the Stanford professor who analyzed Warren's DNA, concluded that "the vast majority" of her ancestry is European.
The hubbub around Ms Warren's ancestry recalls the attacks President Barack Obama faced over his background. That would seem to fit the story that Warren's parents told their children about their maternal great-great-great-grandmother.
Himalayan storm: Climbers' bodies removed from Nepal mountain
Rarely-climbed Gurja lies in Nepal's Annapurna region, next to avalanche-prone Dhaulagiri - the world's seventh highest mountain . It was unlikely the weather would clear on Saturday and helicopter flights were likely to be possible only on Sunday.
Facebook hack yielded personal information for as many as 30 million users
Of the 50 million people whose access tokens we believed were affected, about 30 million actually had their tokens stolen. Up to 90 million people were logged out of their accounts and had those tokens reset as a result of the bug's discovery.
Grim search underway for victims of Hurricane
Florida state officials said 285 people in Mexico Beach had defied a mandatory evacuation order ahead of Michael. Some fear the toll can only rise as rescue teams get around storm debris blocking roads and reach isolated areas.
Trump taunted Warren over the issue at a July rally in Montana. But in Warren's telling, this distant genetic inheritance had profound implications for her immediate family. One can still reasonably object to Warren's decision to identify as Native American, despite lacking membership in any tribe, or an indigenous ancestor in living memory. Instead, that would make her 1/64th Native American.
"I think she'd be very easy [to beat]", he said. "Warren lying about her heritage to advance her career". Pauline Reed's family was against her marriage to Donald Herring, so the two eloped in 1932.
During a town hall meeting on September 29 in Holyoke, Warren said that she plans on taking a "hard look" at running for president in 2020 following the midterm elections on November 6. In August, she's posted 10 years of tax returns online.
"I took this test and released the results for anyone who cares to see because I've got nothing to hide", Warren added in yet another tweet.
Warren replied that it's time "for women to go to Washington to fix our broken government, and that includes a woman at the top". And if her campaign-style short film is any indication, her favorite charity might be her own campaign for presidency in 2020.
