The interview briefly touched on the Khashoggi case, with the crown prince stating he had no knowledge of the journalist's fate or whereabouts and that he had left the Istanbul consulate.
The consulate's security camera visuals of Khashoggi on that day show him going inside the building but there is no footage of him coming out, according to Turkish authorities. As a columnist for the Post, Khashoggi was a frequent critic of the Saudi regime.
Writer Jamal Khashoggi, who had written critically about Prince Mohammed and the kingdom, vanished October 2 while on a trip to the consulate to get paperwork so he could be married to Cengiz. The consulate insists the writer left its premises, contradicting Turkish officials.
On Monday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said officials from the Saudi consulate in Istanbul must "prove" that Khashoggi made exit from the mission.
Ankara has provided no evidence that Mr Khashoggi was killed in the building.
Several news organizations have cited anonymous Turkish officials claiming that Khashoggi was the victim of a premeditated murder inside the consulate; Saudi officials have denied those allegations. We have some incredible people and some incredible talent working on it. It is believed that this group dismembered the journalist's body and removed it. That is the same Aaron Boone whose 11th-inning homer in Game 7 of the 2003 AL Championship Series beat the Red Sox . "We like to hear that song sometimes when we win a big game".
Trump added that he hadn't spoken to Saudi officials on the matter, but was planning to "at some point".
"We call on the government of Saudi Arabia to support a thorough investigation of Mr. Khashoggi's disappearance and to be transparent about the results of that investigation", Pompeo said in a statement.
After a positive first meeting with consular staff, who welcomed him warmly and assured him that the necessary paperwork would come through, Jamal was hardly concerned ahead of his second visit. He's a Saudi national who once served as an adviser to the Saudi royal family but fell out of favor after he voiced criticism of the government.
While unnamed Turkish officials quoted in the media have been giving sometimes macabre details of the alleged murder, Erdogan has so far been more circumspect. However, they have not revealed how they obtained this evidence. Saudi Arabia is also unhappy about Ankara's growing proximity to the kingdom's Shiite rival, Iran.
The tension between the two countries is nothing new - their mutual dislike goes back to the days of the Ottoman Empire.
Saudi Arabia's ambassador was summoned to the Turkish embassy twice in the last week over the issue.
There's been a long history of close U.S. -Saudi relations, and those have intensified under Trump. While it has always been apparent that common values are not shared by all American allies, can we still remain partners when journalists go missing, presumed murdered?
