Four passengers who were hospitalised in Chuuk have been transported to Guam for further treatment.
However, he then disappeared and local authorities and the airline are searching for him.
The airline did not immediately offer any other details about the passenger, such as his age or nationality.
The fleet includes Boeing 767 and 737 jets for worldwide routes, according to the airline, as well as Fokker F-100 aircraft, Q400 and Dash 8 aircraft for challenging local terrain.
The plane that crash-landed Friday in a remote Pacific lagoon was operated by Air Niugini, an airline that's hardly a household name but provides crucial links between isolated Melanesian outposts in the Pacific and the rest of the world.
"I commend the crew of P2-PXE for their swift action to evacuate passengers".
In a statement, Air Niugini thanked the locals who had rushed to the plane's aid.
The men compared headcounts of passengers and crew originally on the plane, and the number who boarded a host of small boats that also raced to the rescue.

Bills stun Vikings 27-6 in rookie Allen’s 1st road start
If the same kind of stage is set next week, there's no reason the Bills can't be 2-2 by the time Sunday night rolls around. In the Bills' first two losses, Buffalo gave up 138 yards and two rushing touchdowns to backup running backs.
Adultery not a crime, says Supreme Court
The court also struck down part of Section 198 of the Criminal Procedure Code dealing with adultery, LiveLaw reported. The CJI began reading the judgment by saying the beauty of the Constitution is that it includes "the I, me and you".
Officials said on Friday that seven people had been taken to a hospital. No one was injured and the passengers have been provided with food and accommodations while they remain in Micronesia.
Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed last week the two Australians on board were safe. It said it was in touch with embassies, passenger representatives, stakeholders and families of the crew.
The cause of the crash remains unclear. In 2008, an Asia Pacific Airlines cargo Boeing 727 overran the runway, ending up with its nose landing gear in the lagoon water at the end of the 6,000 foot Pohnpei airport runway. We came in very low and unfortunately the flight attendants panicked and started yelling and I was trying to be calm and help. "Until I looked over and saw a hole in the side of the plane and water was coming in. I thought "this is not the way it's supposed to happen".
Jaynes said those aboard managed to wade through waist-deep water to the emergency exits on the sinking plane.
He said the flight attendants were yelling, and that he suffered a minor head injury.
The team was on hand working on improving the wharf area in Chuuk and other operations, the Navy said.
Air Niugini is Papua New Guinea's national airline and lists only one 737-800 among its fleet of 21 aircraft on its official website.
