Little wonder that United was so easily picked apart by a West Ham side with only four points from six games before Saturday.
West Ham grabbed an early lead through Felipe Anderson, and a Manchester United own goal just before halftime gave the home team a 2-0 lead.
Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson has dubbed Manchester United an average side under Jose Mourinho and joked agent Paul Pogba is doing a good job for the Reds.
The word "crisis" has been too easily grasped for in relation to United this season, but this was truly bad.
Pogba was withdrawn with 20 minutes remaining, and United two goals down, and made minimal eye contract with Mourinho as he made his way to the bench.
Man United's 10 points equals the club's worst return after the first seven matches of any season in the Premier League era, heaping more pressure on Mourinho, whose brand of football seems to be delivering neither points nor pleasure to United fans.
Woodward is still believed to back Mourinho, though the latest defeat to West Ham has been a tough pill to swallow, and Pogba is increasingly prepared to try and force his hand. A gap the size of a truck appeared in the away side's defence and, given Marko Arnautovic is rather smaller than your average 18-wheeler, he had time and space to pick his spot.

It was not the best game of Mo's career, that's 100%. "I was just telling him I watched his videos", he said. But I saw a really good performance from my side in a hard game after we'd lost on Wednesday against them.

Oil jumps to four-year high
The higher oil prices could cause problems for Trump in the lead up to the midterm congressional elections in November. Oil reached $80 a barrel this month, prompting Trump to demand again that OPEC bring down prices.
The Red Devils today suffered their third defeat in seven Premier League games this season.
Speaking after the game, Mourinho noted that, this week, it was time for Martial to get the nod ahead of Sanchez.
"So decision made, I informed the player and the players and then, when I was asked before Tuesday's match (against Derby), I confirmed it". Coaching is about that but you make story about it.
Forget the Paul Pogba situation, Manchester United's problems run far deeper than that.
"Tomorrow he plays. He is a player like the others", said Mourinho.
Equally, they carried significant elements of risk: Yarmolenko has a tendency to go missing and Anderson was not a regular for Lazio last season, suggesting that his fine form of the previous year, when Europe's biggest clubs were supposedly interested in him, had faded.
"I just think they have actually become a very, very average team with a very negative manager".
