Chinese handset maker OnePlus said that it forming a new division to develop a Smart TV. The "benefits of intelligent connectivity" are not limited to smartphones, however, prompting the firm to explore experiences within the user's home.
Having gone from strength to strength with its stellar OnePlus 5T and OnePlus 6 smartphones, the Shenzhen-based OnePlus is looking to take its business to the next level with a proposed smart TV release for 2019. The amount of buzzwords in the text is off the charts - what's "connected human experience", anyway? - but it's safe to assume it'll include some sort of intelligent assistant, and that it'll be affordable.
OnePlus hasn't released official details of the TV, but Lau dropped a few tidbits in an interview with PCMag. The company on Monday announced that it had taken first steps to launch its first smart TV, called OnePlus TV. Lau says that it's building a premium, flagship TV, with the specs to match, so I'd at least expect it to be 4K HDR. Previously, this has served OnePlus well, and reminded it that it should not skip important features (back in the day, there was an outcry that the OnePlus 2 did not have NFC on board, and the company listened and fixed this in the next phone). The TV would feature far-field microphones, just like smart speakers, and would be a focal point for the household. Later in 2016, the company also planned to launch OnePlus smartwatch alongside the Oneplus 3 smartphone. We have to resort to grey market imports of their phones thus making it even more unlikely they would bring the OnePlus TV to our land.

OnePlus has not revealed details but said that it will focus on solving the same challenges in the area of TVs that they have focused on solving for smartphones. It also means showing you useful information like your upcoming calendar events, suggestions for departure times for your daily commute, and the ability to arrange transportation to and from a destination. Ahead of the launch, the company has confirmed that the OnePlus 6T will come with Oppo F9 Pro and Vivo V11 Pro like in-display fingerprint sensor.
In 2014, Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus debuted in the smartphone space with the launch of the OnePlus One, which was termed a flagship but had the price of a midrange device.
5G and AI are no longer buzzwords, but trends, which the company is taking seriously. "With a OnePlus TV, Lau wants to bring the best of all worlds". "We want a seamless user experience", he told PCMag.
