Lap 47 - VETTEL TAKES THE LEAD!
The incident at Turn 3, which saw Raikkonen collide with the Briton sending him into a spin which dropped him to last, follows a similar clash in France in which Vettel hit Valtteri Bottas at the first corner. A number of times Vettel attacked at Brooklands after using DRS, and Bottas repelled, with Hamilton similarly fighting Raikkonen but also filling Vettel's mirrors.
The victory extended Vettel's lead in the drivers' championship to 171 points, with Hamilton on 163.

Hamilton rushed back into the mix for a podium spot with the majority of runners picking a one-stop strategy until Marcus Ericsson lost control of his Sauber at Turn 1, and his fierce shunt into the tyre barrier brought out a lap 33 safety auto.
But he surged back into contention and thanks to the safety vehicle being deployed on two occasions late on in the race surged into second place. 15 laps to go, and Bottas is in the lead.

With Silverstone expectant after Hamilton's brilliant qualifying performance and England's progress in the FIFA World Cup, the home crowd's jubilant mood was dampened immediately when Vettel and Bottas got ahead of Hamilton at Turn 1 as the polesitter struggled to get off the line cleanly.
By the end of lap three, Hamilton was 14th.
Out came the safety vehicle again.
The German was 57 thousandths of a second quicker after their first laps and Hamilton knew he needed to do something special. "It's all there!" Being Lewis Hamilton's race engineer can be a somewhat thankless task - today it involved some very keen cheerleading.
