Missouri Governor Eric Greitens - once a rising Republican political star - resigned Tuesday amid expanding investigations of a sex scandal and potential violations of campaign finance laws.
Gardner said in a statement that the last several months have been hard.
Baker released a statement sating that no deals have been made with her office and that her review of the case will continue without fear or favor. He has said he is innocent, called the relationship consensual and said he was the subject of a political witch hunt.
A St. Louis grand jury had indicted Greitens in February, accusing him of invading the privacy of his former hairdresser, with whom he had an extramarital affair, by taking a photo of her without permission. "Many of Mr. Greitens' former colleagues and friends cooperated with our prosecution, not because they were threatened or harassed, but because it was the right thing to do".
A felony invasion-of-privacy charge levied against him has been dropped, however a special prosecutor has been considering whether to refile it.
Greitens' attorney Jim Martin acknowledged reaching out to Gardner to resolve the issue.

A judge gave the governor's political non-profit group, A New Missouri, until Friday to turn over communications between it and Mr Greitens' office.
Greitens had refused to leave even facing the prospect of becoming the first governor in Missouri's history to be impeached. A House investigatory committee had subpoenaed Greitens to testify next Monday during a special monthlong session focused exclusively on his potential discipline.
Lieutenant Governor Mike Parson, also a Republican, will become governor when Greitens officially leaves office on Friday.
The recording was released by the woman's ex-husband without her knowledge, and it launched a criminal investigation into possible sexual assault and blackmail. He is accused of illegally obtaining a donor list to aid his 2016 election campaign from a veterans' charity he founded in 2007.
On Tuesday, Greitens remained defiant even while resigning.
"I know, and people of good faith know, that I am not ideal".
Greitens added that he was "not perfect" but insisted he hadn't "broken any laws or committed any offense worthy of this treatment". "I don't believe the market was treating the state's constitutional crisis surrounding the impeachment process as any sort of a credit risk".
