The statement includes language distancing both Fresno City College and LitHop from Jarrar and her comments, offering condolences to the Bush family "as we join the rest of our country in mourning the loss of our former First Lady". "F-k outta here with your nice words", one of her posts read.
Jarrar, who is on leave this semester, describes herself in her Twitter messages as an Arab-American and a Muslim-American woman.
Her tenure status might not save her career, school officials said.
Fresno State responded to the controversy Tuesday evening, tweeting a statement by Castro that said Jarrar's words are "obviously contrary to the core values of our University" and they "were made as a private citizen".
The English professor, Randa Jarrar, went on a five-hour Twitter spree within an hour after Tuesday's announcement that Bush had died.
She added'Either you are against these pieces of s*** and their genocidal ways or you're part of the problem....I'm happy the witch is dead
Abre Conner, a staff attorney for ACLU Northern California, said Jarrar's statements fall under her First Amendment rights to express a political opinion on her own time.
Jarrar now says she's been placed on paid leave by Fresno State. "Please know the university is taking this matter very seriously". "The answer to that is no", Zelezny said. She is now on leave of absence for the semester. She even tagged the university's president, and practically dared her critics to do the same if they didn't like what she was saying. "We are all held accountable for our actions".
Jarrar's comments that she could not be fired for her tweets because she is a tenured professor were countered Wednesday by Zelezny, who told the press that in fact a professor can be fired in spite of their tenure.
"Randa Jarrar is a hate-spewing psychopath, yet she remains gainfully employed at Fresno State".
Here is more of Jarrar's euphoric excitement and nasty name-calling that she splashed across Twitter like a garbage truck spilling it contents: "PSA: either you are against these pieces of s- and their genocidal ways or you're part of the problem".
Castro echoed the sentiments of Fresno State's Chief Academic Officer, Lynnette Zelezny, who underscored that tenured professors can indeed be fired.
