(Dunya News) - Countrywide protests have erupted against massacre of over 20 innocent and unarmed civilians by occupied forces in Indian-held Kashmir.
The authorities today chose to keep schools and other educational institutions closed tomorrow even as the separatists extended the strike by one day over the killings of 13 militants and four civilians in three separate encounters in the Kashmir valley. His family had alleged that he was used as a "human shield' by troops. Internet shutdowns must not be blanket or indefinite".
Several protesters were injured in clashes with police south Kashmir on Monday as the Valley observed a complete shutdown in protest against the killings of four civilians in Shopian district during operations against militants on Sunday. The medical staff said troops tried to stop them from performing their duties.
As NPR's Julie McCarthy reported in 2016, the practice of firing pellets as a means of crowd control has been a frequent practice of Indian security personnel in the area - and has attracted condemnation in the past, as well.
Two civilians were also killed and dozens injured when police opened fire on thousands of demonstrators who poured onto the streets, throwing stones and chanting slogans against Indian rule. The protests have persisted despite the Indian army chief warning recently that tough action would be taken against stone throwers during counterinsurgency operations.
Vaid said the army received information on Saturday night about militants hiding in an area near Dragad village in Shopian district, about 50 km (30 miles) south of Kashmir's capital of Srinagar.
It said Abbasi asked the worldwide community to urge India to allow fact-finding missions to be sent to Kashmir and asked the United Nations to appoint a special representative to Kashmir "where India, encouraged by the silence of the global community, continues to kill with impunity".

But The Associated Press, citing local residents, reports that Indian troops also live ammunition on some groups of civilian protesters.
Almost 70,000 people have been killed in the uprising and the ensuing Indian military crackdown.
