Black Panther nudged past The Avengers to earn the $1 spot on the domestic superhero film chart on the same weekend it finally gave up the top spot at the box office. Black Panther slipped to second place with $16.6 million in its sixth frame this weekend, being dethroned by newcomer Pacific Rim Uprising, which won with an estimated $28 million.
The original Pacific Rim starring Charlie Hunnam and directed by Guillermo del Toro opened in theaters on July 12, 2013. Uprising received a B CinemaScore. Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One opens on Thursday and that might help save one of the worst Marches at the box office in many years.

Per studio estimates, "Pacific Rim Uprising" will close the weekend with $28.0 million in receipts.
