Walmart threw the latest punch in the most recent round of block-and-counter between the giants, announcing today its plans to expand its online grocery delivery option to more than 40 percent of us households by the end of the year.
Although Walmart says delivery will be available same-day for customers, it doesn't break out one- and two-hour timeframes like its close competitors.
Walmart expands home grocery delivery service that could boost it in its ongoing battle with e-commerce giant Amazon. And the megachain plans to add thousands to its workforce of over 18,000 personal shoppers to aid the effort.
Shoppers can make their purchases on the grocery section of Walmart's website or through the Walmart Grocery app.
Amazon is also making a big push into same-day grocery deliveries.

Tom Ward, vice-president of digital operations for Walmart US, touted Walmart's brick-and-mortar infrastructure in today's press release, noting that it gives the company a "unique opportunity" in delivery. A Walmart source says that their theoretical plan is to eventually expand this on-demand delivery program to ten or so other cities where Walmart "hasn't built a store presence", assuming there are even ten cities that would qualify for that.
