Pompeo, now director of the Central Intelligence Agency, is Donald Trump's choice to replace Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, whom the president constantly undermined with critical quotes and tweets.
Nearly from the get-go, Tillerson, the former CEO of Irving-based Exxon Mobil, seemed out of sorts and out of step with his mercurial boss.
But addressing reporters before leaving on a trip to California, Trump spoke openly of his disagreements with the former Exxon chief - including over the Iran nuclear deal - as he explained his decision to replace him.
Tillerson himself was never quite sure that he had the president's ear either, of course, and over time seemed to grow less interested in getting it.
The idea for the summit first came together around last September, not long after President Trump threatened to unleash "fire and fury" on North Korea in response to its ongoing weapons testing. The firing was just the latest in an exodus of administration officials, including those in Trump's inner circle, with the president already setting records for staff turnover and several other Cabinet secretaries facing ethics investigations.
At the very beginning of his eight-minute speech, Tillerson said that he "received a call from the President of the United States a little after noontime".
Tillerson to Spend Few Hours in Nigeria
Tillerson says Chad has taken important, positive steps to strengthen control over its passports and improve information-sharing. On his part, Mr Tillerson reaffirmed the support of the USA for Nigeria to ensure the speedy recovery of the abducted girls.
University Hospitals increases security at fertility clinic after embryo freezer malfunctions
For some patients it could mean procedure fees would be waived for future treatment. "We are so very sorry this happened". The only way to check if an egg or embryo is viable is to thaw it, which is only done when it is to be used imminently.
Son Brace Eases Tottenham to Victory After Harry Kane Injury
Earlier Sunday, Arsenal defeated Watford 3-0 as Petr Cech became the first goalkeeper to reach 200 Premier League clean sheets. Spurs came back from a goal down to beat the Cherries 4-1 this morning.
"Would you define this White House as stable?" a reporter followed up. Hours later, he was sacked, too. As Undersecretary of State for Public Diplomacy Steve Goldstein said in a statement Tuesday, "The Secretary did not speak to the President this morning and is unaware of the reason, but he is grateful for the opportunity to serve". After hours of bureaucratic tug-of-war, Tillerson, in his final somber turn before the cameras, said he would be delegating his responsibilities to deputy secretary John Sullivan at the end of the workday and would resign effective at the end of the month.
Pompeo's promotion comes as the trading relationship between Canada and the U.S.is growing more hard. In his first visit to Moscow past year, he asked Russian President Vladimir Putin what he wanted from the U.S. -Russia relationship and on what areas the two countries could cooperate.
"Let's hope that he puts his dedication to the mission and to the country before his partisan or personal loyalty to the president", Revere said.
While the message was aimed at Pyongyang, it also helped Tillerson make the case for peace at the White House.
Critics said the move would sow more instability in the volatile Trump administration and marks the departure of another moderate who sought to emphasise the United States' strong ties to its allies amid Trump's criticism.
Current and former officials said Pompeo, 54, was likely to get along better with Congress and with the White House, not least because of his conservative bent. Asked about how Trump used Twitter in announcing Tillerson's firing, Johnson said he "would have handled things differently". Trump is also said to respect Pompeo's military background and West Point pedigree.
