The incident is reported to have happened at about 7 am.
According to reports, the hooligans, who are yet to be identified, broke the spectacles on Gandhi's statue before getting away in Thaliperambu area of the city.
The statue of Mahatma Gandhi was damaged at taluk office in Taliparamba in Kannur district of Kerala. He suddenly pulled out the specs and garland on the statue; he slapped the statue. "The crowd started to get restless by then and after he sensed it he fled the scene", added Vinu Mohan.
