On Wednesday, Cuonzo Martin, Mizzou's head coach, told ESPN's Paul Finebaum that his star freshman would return for the SEC Tournament.
In the season opener against Iowa State, he only played two minutes before leaving the game with a back injury.
His back injury made it likely Porter would elect not to return in 2017-18, as he is still slated as a projected lottery pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. Martin said that Porter will not start and does not expect him to play heavy minutes.
At practice today in St. Louis where the tournament will be held, Porter showed of some serious consistency from beyond the 3-point line. The Tigers went 20-11 without Porter and now are projected to be a No. 8 seed in The Big Dance, but his return gives them the look of the top 15 team they were projected to be before the season started. Tipoff will be about 30 minutes following the first game of the day, which begins at 1 p.m. ET.
"Unless Mike says otherwise, that's what it is", Martin said.
