The Carolina Panthers placed interim general manager Marty Hurney on paid leave as the National Football League investigates harassment allegations brought up by Hurney's former wife, the team confirmed Tuesday.
According to the Charlotte Observer, Hurney and his wife divorced in 2014, but she is alleging Carolina's interim GM has been harassing her for years.
Hired on an interim basis last July after Richardson abruptly fired Dave Gettleman, Marty Hurney was the only internal candidate last week to interview for the position with team officials.
The NFL is investigating Hurney under the league's personal conduct policy, team spokesman Steven Drummond said. "My privacy has been violated for the past seven years with Martin's behaviors of tracking me, my pets and violating my property", the complaint said. A protective order was filed by Hurney's ex-wife last Friday.
According to one of Marty Hurney's lawyers, Kathi Lucchesi, it is significant that the restraining order was not granted, as 10-day orders are usually granted.

When the Panthers made a decision to let Gettleman go last July, Hurney was brought in on an interim basis because of the level of familiarity that the organization had with him. "No truth to it".
The team was officially put on the market after the Panthers playoff loss to the Saints and the sale of the team is in its early stages.
This is Hurney's second go-round with the Panthers as he served in the same capacity from 2002-2012.
