He hit a combined.213 with 27 home runs and 76 RBIs last season for the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees. In 81 games, the White Sox slugger only managed to hit 16 home runs while driving in just 44 runs, and hitting a paltry.207. In the final months of last season, the Mets lost Curtis Granderson, Neil Walker and Bruce, all clubhouse leaders; add to that Wright's longtime absence, and the need for a veteran voice was clear. From the standpoint of the soon-to-be 32-year-old third baseman, this is a steep discount that many other mid-market free agents may settle for as spring training approaches. Wright has no intention of retiring right now and is hopeful that he can play this season in some capacity. He would also become the 2015 MLB Home Run Derby champion in front of his home crowd in Cincinnati where the All-Star Game was being held. He did walk a career-high 83 times, and his.226 batting average on balls in play was second-worst in Major League Baseball, according to FanGraphs.

Earlier today in my article about the New York Mets catchers, i said they would be better off taking their resources and getting a third baseman and a starting pitcher. It's certainly something that benefits the Mets - they still could sign a middle infielder or add bullpen help - but has raised the hackles of agents and players. Frazier may not be an all-star, but he should provide the Mets with steady and reliable production at the hot corner, not to mention another veteran leader in the locker room.
In 2017, Frazier would get off to one of the worst starts of his career.
