"We give them hundreds of millions of dollars in aid and support, tremendous numbers, numbers that nobody understands".
Almost twice as many Palestinians said they supported "armed struggle" against Israel compared with an identical survey six months previously, while there was also a fall in support for the two-state solution, the joint Israeli and Palestinian poll found. "Instead, most money goes to the United Nations, refugee or aid agencies and even Israel to pay for roads, welfare, schools, security and other Palestinian projects".
By contrast, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was effusive in his praise for Trump, particularly because of the president's controversial decision to move the American embassy in that country from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Trump said that the US-Israel relationship has never been stronger, and that he and Netanyahu are close personal friends.
Apparently, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas made some kind of hostile, conspiracy theory-laden speech of the type he usually gets away with and that stoke Palestinian and world hostility toward Israel.
Netanyahu also noted Trump's threatening to pull out of the Iranian nuclear deal and said Israel would back the move.

Iran is certain to be the top subject in Thursday's meeting. "I said that in my opinion, the only option at the moment is to introduce real, rather than cosmetic, amendments that will prevent Iran from nuclearization, which is now guaranteed under the agreement", Netanyahu said, adding that "I expressed my appreciation for the real commitment of the chancellor to Israel's security". Netanyahu told German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Davos yesterday that the only way to fix the nuclear deal "is to insert real, not cosmetic, fixes that will prevent Iran's nuclearization". Reportedly a U.S. -European working group will convene to see how the nuclear agreement can be strengthened and what to do with Iran's ballistic missile program. Trump said Israel, too, should be prepared to concede some points in the peace talks in view of the embassy decision and USA recognition of Jerusalem as that nation's historic capital. The White House still plans to unveil a plan in 2018 that will encompass broader regional diplomatic efforts that include Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. I say it pushes peace forward, because it recognizes history and present reality.

"We took Jerusalem off the table, so we don't have to talk about it anymore", Trump said on Thursday.

The status of Jerusalem goes to the heart of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
