Zengotita-Torres was an innocent victim of a truly heinous murder, according to Osceola County Sheriff Russell Gibson.
Reports indicate that the intended target of the alleged plot was not injured, however, as the couple she hired identified the wrong woman.
The suspects dumped her body near Tomoka Avenue and Bennett Lane in Ormond Beach late on January 7 or early the next day, the sheriff said.
Authorities found Janice Zengotita-Torres' body Tuesday in Volusia County.
Gibson said Zengotita-Torres had moved to Florida from Puerto Rico a year ago, along with her mother, her husband, and their 14-year-old son.
Three people were taken into custody Friday in connection with the abduction and murder of a 42-year-old Florida woman, officials said. The victim suffocated from the garbage bags on her head.
Investigators say that Ishnar Lopez-Ramos, 35, hired Glorianmarie Quinones-Montes, and Alexis Ramos-Rivera, both 22, to kill a woman who was in a relationship with a man she had romantic feelings for - but they accidentally targeted the wrong woman.

She chose to contract Alexis Ramos-Rivera and his sweetheart, Glorianmarie Quinones Montes, to slaughter the lady, yet they confused Zengotita-Torres for their objective and stole her.
After following Zengotita-Torres back to her apartment, they forced her into the trunk of her own vehicle and drove to an apartment near The Mall at Millenia in Orlando.
Three suspects were taken to jail and charged with her killing. Gibson said the couple eventually realised they had nabbed the wrong person. After kidnapping her, they drove to a nearby bank where they supposedly withdrew money using Zengotita-Torres's ATM card, the sheriff's office said.
"I get emotional because it just touches me so deeply that one of our citizens was killed in such a manner over a mistaken identification", Gibson said at the press conference Friday, "and in the end, it appears to be a lover's triangle". She then gave the names of the other two involved.
Ramos-Rivera, Montes and Lopez-Ramos have all been accused of first-degree kill.
The three suspects, all of whom moved to Florida from Puerto Rico on December 26, told authorities it was a botched murder-for-hire plot in which Zengotita-Torres was mistakenly targeted.
