According to Ford, the 2018 Ford F-150 Diesel model will be powered by a 3.0-liter V6 engine that will be offering about 250hp and 440lb ft of torque.
"We know that competing diesels with electric cooling fans have to dial back on power under extreme heat and altitude, so we decided on a viscous-controlled mechanical fan that has the capacity to move much more air across the radiator and intercooler in extreme conditions", said David Ives, Ford's diesel engine technical specialist.
WIth a new diesel under the hood, the 2018 F-150 diesel offers a towing capacity of 11,400 pounds, a payload capacity of 2,020 pounds and a projected EPA-estimated rating of 30 miles per hour highway.
The 2018 F-150 3.0 Power Stroke is headed to dealerships this spring, complete with an estimated EPA highway rating of 30 mpg. Design highlights include a graphite-iron block, forged steel crankshaft (shared with Ford's turbocharged 2.7-liter EcoBoost gasoline V6), a two-stage oil pump, a variable geometry turbocharger, and a common rail injection system pressurized to 29,000 pounds per square inch.
