In an official announcement during a Cairo press conference, NEA head Lasheen Ibrahim announced the timetable for the highly anticipated elections, with proceedings to take place between late January and 1 May, when the NEA will announce the victor and new president of Egypt.
"Hence, I've decided I am not intending to run in Egypt's presidential elections in 2018".
Ibrahim said that candidate registration will start on January 20 and close on January 29, noting that electoral campaigns will kick off on February 22.
Elections for voters outside the country will be held between March 16 to 18.
The results from the first round will be announced on April 2.
