Four policemen were killed on Saturday morning when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was detonated by suspected militants in Baramulla's Sopore.
The Jash-e-Mohammed militant group claimed responsibility for the attack, according to the English-language Greater Kashmir newspaper.
Preliminary reports suggest that the IED was planted near a shop. The place was cordoned off and a search operation is underway, a police officer told news agency IANS.
The cops belonged to the 3rd Battalion of Indian Reserve Police (IRP).

Minister for Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Law and Justice Abdul Haq condoled the loss of lives in an IED blast in Sopore and snow avalanche in Kupwara district. Three shops were damaged in the blast, eyewitnesses said.
"The Shaheed Afzal Guru squad carried out the attack", JeM spokesperson said. "May the four courageous J&K police personnel killed in the line of duty today rest in peace".
The two injured were shifted to hospital in Srinagar, said the police official. The town, famous for apple orchards, is observing a shutdown on the 25th anniversary of a massacre in which government forces killed at least 47 people after a paramilitary soldier died in a rebel attack.
