According to legal experts, Lalu would have been able to apply for bail immediately at the lower court itself if the quantum of sentence was less than three years.
Lalu heard the sentencing from jail via video conferencing.
The CBI lawyer said a fine totalling Rs 10 lakhs was imposed the RJD supremo.
The court had, however, acquitted six others including former Bihar chief minister Jagannath Mishra in the case.
