Ramamoorthy, who prosecutors said was an Indian national living in the United States on a temporary visa, was charged with aggravated sexual abuse and held without bail after an appearance in federal court in MI on Thursday, the Washington Post reported. According to the complaint, 34-year-old Prabhu Ramamoorthy reportedly unbuttoned the 22-year-old victim's shirt and stuck his hand in her trousers while she was asleep against the plane's window.
She immediately told a flight attendant and Prabhu Ramamoorthy was taken into custody in Romulus, Mich. when the flight landed.
The victim claimed that 'she woke up to find her trousers and shirt unbuttoned and the man's hand inside her trousers, ' while his wife sat next to him. The flight, which was being operated by Spirit Airlines, was flying from Las Vegas to Detroit on 3 January.
In a statement, Campos said a man sitting in the middle seat between her and another woman grabbed her upper, inner thigh three times.
Ramamoorthy was arrested after the plane landed, according to court documents. Ramamoorthy was arrested upon landing at the Detroit Metropolitan Airport.

Manufacturing sector records record growth in December
China's manufacturing sector continued to expand in December, pointing to economic resilience in the country's factory sector. Although the rate of inflation quickened to a 10-month high, it was modest and weaker than the long-run series average.
Before talking to the Federal Bureau of Investigation agent, however, Ramamoorthy claimed that he had been in "deep sleep" while the assault allegedly happened, and that the victim had fallen asleep on his knees.
The report also says that Prabhu admitted to unzipping Celia's trousers and putting his fingers inside.
But flight attendants told investigators that only the alleged victim had asked for her seat to be changed. The attendants kept Celia at the back of the plane and were offering her another seat when Prabhu's wife came there to see what was happening, federal prosecutor Amanda Jawad said. The magistrate found the case "very unusual" and ordered Ramamoorthy to be held after Jawad argued the assaulter posed a potential danger to people around him.
"There's been no allegations from anywhere that his behavior has ever been inappropriate prior to this incident", O'Neill said.
