A rare Blue Moon lunar eclipse will happen this month

2018's second and last supermoon will happen at the end of the month, on January 31, and it will be extra special because it will also feature a lunar eclipse.

"A Super full moon looks around 12 per cent to 14 per cent bigger than its counterpart, the micro moon, and up to 7 per cent bigger than an average full moon", says timeanddate.com, a popular astrology website.

But the celestial anomaly is set to be even brighter tonight, and comes after December's dazzling supermoon. The video starts tonight, January 1, at around 6 p.m. or 7 p.m. The supermoon on January 31 will feature a total lunar eclipse, with totality viewable from western North America across the pacific to Eastern Asia. But it will occur very late, when the moon is close to the earth's horizon. It noted that the greatest eclipse will occur at 9:29 p.m. Here's another supermoon live stream you can view below, provided by Virtual Telescope.

Mighty Mayfield can't propel Oklahoma to win in Rose Bowl
The game was the highest-scoring Rose Bowl, one point more than USC's 52-49 victory over Penn State in the 2017 Rose Bowl. Oklahoma will take on the Georgia Bulldogs in the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day 2018.

Pagano fired by Colts after six seasons in Indianapolis
The team's 12 losses this season are their most since 2011, but the Colts haven't been a viable AFC contender in years. But Luck's missed 26 of the past 48 games, when a pair of 8-8 campaigns preceded this year's rebuilding season.

Packers last game of season
It's good to see these youngsters head into their offseasons on a good note. "It's about how they play together", he said. McCarthy and the Packers coaching staff obviously saw something on field they thought they could exploit and did.

The term "supermoon" was introduced by American astrologer Richard Nolle, who defined it as "a new or full moon which occurs with the moon at or near (within 90% of) its closest approach to Earth in a given orbit". This moon will also cause particularly high or king tides. The next supermoon will be on January 31. But experts agree that the best time to view the moon is right as it is over the horizon, because that's when it appears the largest.

There's a reason the phrase "once in a blue moon" means something rare, but what about two blue moons happening in the same year.

But if you miss the supermoon on New Year's Day, don't worry. The full moon will be the closest it gets to Earth in its orbit making it appear a little bit bigger and a little bit brighter than a typical full moon. To take a photo, fit your camera with a telephoto lens and lengthen the shutter time and increase the sensitivity (ISO) to compensate for the lower nighttime light.
