While Gruden reportedly won't make a decision until the regular season is over and current head coach Jack Del Rio's fate is decided, Mortensen also reported the offer is expected to give Gruden enough control to reshape the organization as he sees fit and that many around the league believe this will be the job Gruden heads back for. He made the playoffs, and won a game in said playoffs in each of his final two years at the helm. Gruden took the Buccaneers to a Super Bowl win over the Raiders following the 2002 season. But Schefter reported on Friday that Dirk Koetter would be returning as head coach for the Bucs in 2018, which would obviously mean Gruden isn't going there.
Gruden has always been rumored as a coaching candidate for multiple teams since entering the broadcast booth as color commentator for Monday Night Football back in 2009.
"I don't want to sit here and speculate ..."
One ownership source told ESPN that the owners "might not be so quick to approve the deal" because they wouldn't want to set a precedent. "Im here to help people".
Pagano fired by Colts after six seasons in Indianapolis
The team's 12 losses this season are their most since 2011, but the Colts haven't been a viable AFC contender in years. But Luck's missed 26 of the past 48 games, when a pair of 8-8 campaigns preceded this year's rebuilding season.
Fiesta Bowl nostalgia? Not for Penn State and Washington
The junior still had a superb season, finishing with 2,154 all-purpose yards and 22 touchdowns, including 1,134 yards rushing. As the leader of the Boise State program, Petersen guided the Broncos to wins over Oklahoma and TCU in the Fiesta Bowl .
Lesbian couple, two children found slain in upstate NY home
The victims were Shanta Myers , 36, her partner Brandi Mells , 22, and Myers' two children, Jeremiah, 11, and Shanise, 5. From the beginning, police, who have not provided details about the deaths, described the case as a horrific crime.
However, the Raiders - a trendy Super Bowl pick entering the season - have been one of the NFL's biggest disappointments this season with a (not nice) 6-9 record. A healthy Derek Carr was primed to bring his team back to the promised land after so much wandering in the desert. With at least another year in Oakland and a future that consists of playing in a still-undetermined location for 2019 and Las Vegas as soon as 2020, the Raiders need sizzle and excitement - far more than what bringing Marshawn Lynch out of retirement did in 2017.
Del Rio's Raiders ended the season with a massive thud, losing 30-10 in Los Angeles. They have lost three consecutive games. If Gruden didn't want the Raiders job, he could have simply said, "I've talked to plenty of suitors, but I'm staying at ESPN".
Via Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Rich Gannon's name keeps coming up as Gruden makes calls to round up potential members of a coaching staff.
Though he doesn't have coaching experience, it's hard to overlook the personal connection he has with Gruden.
