The censor board has chose to give Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Padmavati" a UA certificate without any cuts but has suggested that the director change the film's title to "Padmavat" besides making four other modifications.
In the latest meeting of Examining Committee on December 28, CBFC chose to grant the film a UA certification with the condition that 26 scenes are cut and the title of the film is changed from Padmavati to Padmavat. CBFC wants makers to change the name of the film as they can't directly address this film as the story of Rani Padmini otherwise Karni sena would definitely protest against it.
According to the officials, the decision was taken keeping in mind the views of the filmmakers and Indian society.
Considering the complexities and concerns around the film, the requirement for a special panel was felt by CBFC "to add perspective to the final decision of the official committee", the CBFC said.
The special panel included Arvind Singh from Udaipur, Chandramani Singh and professor K K Singh of the Jaipur University. The panellists had some reservations regarding the claimed historical events & socio-cultural aspects of the film, which were duly discussed at length, CBFC claims.
Padmavat is based on a poem of the same name by 16th century Sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi and stars Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh in the leads.
CBFC sources say that the title will be changed from "Padmavati" to "Padmavat" and at least three different disclaimers have to be added during the course of the film, sources say.
