At peak times in clear conditions you will see 120 meteor per hour streaming across the night sky. But some experts also suggest looking toward the south to give you an even better chance of spotting the bright streaks in the night sky. Also, the Virtual Telescope Project 2.0 will be showing the shower through its remotely controlled robotic telescope.
Dec 14, 2017-The Geminid Meteor Shower which remains active from December 4 to 16 will become more active on Thursday night.
The meteors will radiate from the constellation Gemini, hence the name of the shower.
The Gemini constellation is to the right of that and above it. When you see a meteor, trace it backward.
"This year, the nice thing is that the sky is going to be nice and dark, it's going to be clear, the weather is going to be comfortable". Expect to see meteors at a rate of about one per minute, says Bill Cooke of NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office. Tonight's meteor shower is a result of dust left behind from the asteroid 3200 Phaethon.

You can also spot the object virtually in the next few days: The Virtual Telescope will host a webcast with live views from Arizona starting at 3 a.m. EST (0800 GMT) on December 15 and Italy starting December 16 at 3 p.m. EST (2000 GMT).
"Phaethon's nature is debated - it's either a near-Earth asteroid or an extinct comet, sometimes called a rock comet", Cooke said.
Scientists initially thought Phaethon, which is three miles long, used to be a comet that has since lost most of its ice.
The light of the moon can wash out fainter meteors. This year's show might be particularly spectacular, because the waning crescent moon won't spoil the show.
"They can be seen with the naked eye so there's no need for binoculars or a telescope, though you will need to adjust your eyes to the dark". If you're in a city, try to get outside of it to make sure the city lights do not get in the way.
