According to AAA, almost 51 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more during the holiday weekend. They say at its peak, drivers on some interstates and highways could see delays of almost 300 percent over the optimal trip. Another thing that travelers should keep in mind is the airport crowds, particularly on the day before Thanksgiving, arguably the busiest travel day of the year. "But the biggest percentage growth - a 5 percent increase - is taking place at the airports".
About 1.4 million people across the Commonwealth will journey 50 miles or more from home this Thanksgiving and 1.3 million of those will travel by road.
With more people traveling by vehicle, air, bus, and train, AAA urges people to expect delays and beware of traffic hotspots.
AAA Spokesman Robert Sinclair says if you want to avoid the rush, you may have to delay the trip and travel on the holiday itself.

According to AAA, gas prices in the state of Pennsylvania are about 41 cents higher than they were this time past year. The increase in rates may be attributed to an increase in domestic demand and cost of newer vehicles in the fleets with added features and benefits.
