Women's security can not be compromised, will consider if exemptions granted, says govt.
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) will on Saturday decide the fate of the Delhi government's odd-even road rationing plan and whether it should be implemented in the city from next week. "The absence of 30 lakh from roads will make transportation system chaotic in Delhi", Kailash Gehlot said.
Terming the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government's decision as hasty, the tribunal said that the odd-even policy can not be arbitrarily imposed in the state.
The NGT has also said that the rule, which will be in place from 8 am to 8 pm, would apply to two-wheelers, government vehicles and women drivers as well. The NGT questioned the Arvind Kejriwal government over the delay in deciding on artificial rain when "the statistics had indicated that rain leads to a fall in pollution levels", adding that "its patience shouldn't be tested".

"Further, this government feels that considering the large number of two-wheelers in Delhi, unless adequate number of buses are available, implementation of odd-even will cause great hardship to such persons".
"The odd-even will go on". The tribunal directed that odd-even should be implemented "right away" without waiting for 48 hours, in case PM2.5 and PM10 go beyond 400 and 700 units respectively. Both the apex court and we suggested a hundred measures to you, but you haven't implemented ninety-nine of them. The government has made a decision to file a review petition on Monday in the NGT requesting to give exemptions to two wheelers and women.
The scheme will come into effect Monday for a week and the Delhi government claims it will cut down vehicular pollution to half, one of the major sources of pollution.
While passing several directives, the NGT said every entry point to Delhi should be properly managed by the city government, the corporations should ensure that there was no congestion, and Uttar Pradesh and Haryana should depute special forces at the border of the national capital to avoid traffic jams.
