New Jersey ranks 11th best in the nation - up from 15th best in April - because 30 of the 68 hospitals that participated in they survey received the top grade, according to the Leapfrog Group's report on Tuesday.

North Dakota, the District of Columbia, Delaware, Maryland and NY had the lowest percent of hospitals earning an "A" grade. "By making the Hospital Safety Grades public, we've galvanized major changes in these states and many communities", said President and CEO of Leapfrog, Leah Binder, in a statement. "All seven Rhode Island hospitals included in the report received an A. In 2012, the state ranked 50th for its hospitals" grades. Numerous 15 hospitals that received F grades treat a high proportion of low-income patients with complex healthcare needs.
Leapfrog tells people to look at three measures in particular when choosing a health care provider: hand washing, blood infection during an intensive care unit stay and patient falls.
