Bill O'Reilly, the disgraced former Fox News presenter, signed a $100 million contract with the US TV network just weeks after he personally paid $32 million to a female colleague who threatened to sue him for sexual harassment, it has emerged.
The allegations against O'Reilly included "repeated harassment, a nonconsensual sexual relationship and the sending of gay pornography and other sexually explicit material" to a longtime network analyst, according to a New York Times article published on Saturday, October 21.
O'Reilly's four-year contract extension paid $25 million a year, according to the newspaper.
In a statement, 21st Century Fox said it was not privy to the amount of the settlement and regarded Mr. O'Reilly's January settlement, which was reached with a 15-year Fox News analyst named Lis Wiehl, as a personal issue between the two of them.
His new contract, which was made at a time typical for renewals of multi-year talent contracts, added protections for the company specifically aimed at harassment, including that Mr. O'Reilly could be dismissed if the company was made aware of other allegations or if additional relevant information was obtained in a company investigation.
Also, government prosecutors who had been examining the system's treatment of sexual harassment grievances against Mr. Ailes had requested material identified with assertions including Mr. O'Reilly, as indicated by an interior Fox email got by The Times. Company officials said they would have renewed O'Reilly's contract whether Kelly had stayed or not.
Early that month, The Times gave an account of five settlements including Mr. O'Reilly, driving promoters to blacklist his show and generating challenges requiring his ouster.

O'Reilly, host of The O'Reilly Factor, was ousted from the news channel in April amid reports he'd settled multiple suits to the tune of $13 million. At the time, the company had undertaken internal steps to root out and address complaints of employee harassment.
Finally, in the more than 20 years Bill O'Reilly worked at Fox News, not one complaint was filed against him with the Human Resources Department or Legal Department by a coworker, even on the anonymous hotline. The new round of harassment allegations also seemed to threaten British approval of 21st Century's multibillion-dollar purchase of Sky Broadcasting, a British-based satellite service.
