In meetings with Pakistan's prime minister, foreign minister, and senior military officials, "secretary Tillerson will discuss our joint efforts to fight terrorist groups that threaten regional peace and stability and how Pakistan can support our effort to reach a peaceful solution in Afghanistan", said the U.S. state department spokeswoman.
USA secretary of state Rex Tillerson says the Donald Trump administration expects Pakistan to take "decisive action against terrorist groups" based within its borders.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump will visit a number of Asian countries, including China, in November.
Tillerson said the USA and India were leading regional efforts on counterterrorism.
The ministry was referring to a Tillerson speech, made at a Washington think tank, during which he bluntly talked about "China's challenges to the rules-based (world) order" and in a none-too-veiled reference to Pakistan, said that "states that use terror as an instrument of policy will only see their worldwide reputation and standing diminish".
"China's provocative actions in the South China Sea directly challenge the global law and norms that the United States and India both stand for".
He reserved his most pointed remarks concerning China and its push for greater economic influence in the region for a question-and-answer period after the speech.

The statement issued by MEA stated, "Secretary Tillerson has made a significant policy statement on India-US relations and its future".
"The challenges and the dangers we face are substantial", Tillerson said.
