Sean Hughes, the award-winning Irish stand-up comedian, has died at the age of 51, his former agent has said.
The Irish comic, who rose to fame with the sitcom Sean's Show in the 1990s, was reported to have died in hospital on Monday. He was reportedly suffering from liver cirrhosis at Whittington Hospital in North London when he died of cardiac arrest.
In 1990, Hughes was 24 when he became the youngest victor of the main prize at the Perrier Comedy Awards, now known as the Edinburgh Comedy Awards, for his stand-up show A One Night Stand With Sean Hughes. He played comedian and writer Tony Hawk in his adaption of Round Ireland with a Fridge and also starred in ITV's The Last Detective.

As well as being an established comedian, he also made several appearances as an actor in his career, including a minor role in the cult 1991 movie The Commitments.

Hughes is survived by his two brothers, Alan and Martin.
