The American Red Cross said it is sending at least 250 units to the Las Vegas area in the wake of the mass shooting.
"We've almost doubled our daily donations from 30 to 55", said Danna McFadden, the blood bank's supervisor. "So as soon as the need came in, we started shipping blood", said Wensday Tumulak, account manager for Virginia Blood Services. And show up they did.
Central Coast residents and blood banks are also doing their part to help.
Tragedies like Sunday nights do serve as a reminder to donate but the Red Cross tells us they are nearly always in need of blood.
Many people are feeling helpless following the horrific mass shooting which took place in Las Vegas on Sunday evening.
Scott Edward, Marketing Director for United Blood Services, says at this point, there are no plans to open additional blood donation centers there would not be enough staff available to do so.
The Community Blood Center supplies blood to about 55 local hospitals.

United Blood Services stands ready to send blood to Las Vegas if needed.
Lines were so long at some of the authorized donation sites Monday that authorities are encouraging donors to make a reservation at the locations run by United Blood Services, which will continue to schedule donations for several days.
While we are thousands of miles from Las Vegas, it's important that we are prepared.
"We are in the process of preparing a shipment of blood and platelets to be sent to them as soon as possible and remain on standby to assist further if needed", according to the news release.
