UAE's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs said that the short-lived optimism after Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani's telephone call to Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud was crushed by Doha's "naive" reaction in the media.
On Friday, Sheikh Tamim "expressed his desire to sit at the dialogue table and discuss the demands of the four countries to ensure the interests of all", according to SPA.
Trump on Thursday said he would be willing to step in and mediate the worst dispute in decades among the USA -allied Arab states and Qatar, and said he thinks a deal could come quickly.
The Saudi state news service then responded with its own version of events, citing unnamed authorities, accusing Qatar of distorting the facts and declaring that dialogue between the two monarchies had been suspended.
"We support his efforts to help bring about a settlement", Tillerson said of the Kuwaiti leader. According to the report, Trump stepped into the fray in the past week, offering to mediate in the Qatari-Saudi conflict and vowing a quick victory.
The blockading states shut down air, maritime and land links with Qatar, and imposed economic sanctions the gas-rich emirate. Trump suggested a deal would be "worked out very quickly" if he became personally involved. Qatar has strongly denied the charges.
Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates were among the Arab countries that announced in June they were cutting diplomatic ties with Qatar over what they say is Doha's alleged support for Islamist terrorist and extremist groups.

They also criticised Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani for comments he made after the meeting between Trump and the Kuwaiti Amir.
