President Trump made the wall a centerpiece in his history making 2016 campaign.
"The concrete border wall prototypes will allow CBP to evaluate the potential for new wall and barrier designs that could complement the wall and barrier designs we have used along the border over the last several years", according the a CBP release on wall prototype construction.
The prototypes "will help us refine the design standards" of the eventual wall, acting CBP deputy commissioner Ronald Vitiello said.
A timeline has not been set for the completion of the border wall prototypes, however, each company will have 30 days to complete construction once they receive a notice from the USA government, Vitiello also explained.
Each prototype will be 30 feet tall and 30 feet wide, and cost between $400,000 and about $500,000. CBP officials will meet with the vendors and determine construction timeline, however we expect to construct the prototypes in the fall. "As the border security environment continues to evolve, CBP will continually refresh its own inventory of tools to meet that evolution".

No funds have yet been budgeted for the full border wall, likely a multibillion-dollar undertaking that would be one of the largest public works projects in USA history.
The CBP has provided few details of the concrete prototypes and said funding for four other prototypes for a see-through structure will be awarded next week.
The walls will also need to feature cable conduits and other design features for sensors and cameras.
In late July, CBP's legislative affairs office sent out a memo, obtained by CNN, that two companies that were not selected to be finalists - who then were asked to submit more detailed proposals - filed a total of four protests of the process. The border barrier toolkit is based on USBP's requirements.
