The body was that of Newsome's 11-year-old daughter, police said.
Police say they believe 11-year-old Kaye-lea Plummer was killed at her home in Florida before her mother put her body in the truck.
"I can't even wrap my head around what even would have made (my wife) snap", Donath Plummer said.
"It was obvious that the 11-year-old did not die from injuries from the accident", Barlow said.
Erica Newsome drove for two days with her dead daughter inside a truck before hitting a guardrail in West Virginia, where police say witnesses saw her dragging the body into the woods, according to The Pocahontas Times.
According to the Pocahontas Times, Newsome told detectives that she had killed her daughter and was abusive to her.
"Something pushed her over the edge and she snapped", he told News 4 Jax.

Newsome drove some 700 miles with her daughter's body in the auto, and planned to drive all the way to Buffalo, New York where the girl's father lives.

According to the newspaper, Newsome also told Dillon Kaye-lea did not move, eat, drink, speak, or use the bathroom for two days. The crime scene was processed and foul play is suspected in the child's death.
