Amateur Radio Field Day Demonstrates Ham Radio Operation at Westport Observatory

The Newton Amateur Radio Association of Newton Iowa is a non-profit organization that started as an outgrowth the of YMCA's ham radio club established in 1937 and will be celebrating its 80-year anniversary in 2017.
Local amateur radio operators will be onsite operating continuously from 2 p.m. on Saturday until 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Despite the Internet, cell phones, email and modern communications, every year regions of the country wind up in the dark and alone. The events are open to anyone interested in learning about amateur radio, often referred to as "ham radio", and there is no cost to attend either program. Stations will be communicating with other stations across North American using Morse Code, voice and digital transmission techniques.
Field day is the fourth weekend of June of each year.
There are now over 725,000 licensed hams in the United States, from 5 to 100 years of age, and it is easy for anyone to become a licensed Amateur Radio operator.

The amateur radio frequencies are the last remaining place in the usable radio spectrum where you, as an individual, can develop and experiment with wireless communications.
