During Google I/O, Johnny Lee, head of the Google Tango team, demonstrated Tango and Daydream on the ZenFone AR. The Asus Zenfone was one of the highlights of this year's first tech event, but the smartphone has yet to arrive on the market. The Google Tango platform is Google's own Augmented Reality (AR) platform that has been in the works for several years now. The next-generation smartphone represents a significant advancement in mobile virtual and augmented reality technologies. It doesn't need Global Positioning System to do that but it can effectively make AR experiences and apps that take advantage of 3D mapping, environmental recognition, and indoor navigation.
In order to grow the ecosystem of apps which can take advantage of these platforms, Google is also looking at helping developers with tools like Instant Preview, which allows for changes made to a VR experience to be reflected on the headset "in seconds, not minutes", therefore speeding up development considerably.
ASUS ZenFone AR is ready for both Daydream VR and Tango AR.
