The government on Sunday said it has activated a "preparedness and response mechanism" to prevent any major cyber attack from a new ransomware - "Wannacry" - which has infected computer systems around the world.
The WannaCry ransomware attack - which locks computer systems and demands a $300 payment to allow access to them - affected machines in 150 countries, including companies such as FedEx and Renault.
Europol executive director Rob Wainwright had warned yesterday the situation could worsen when workers return to their offices on Monday after the weekend and logged on.
The crippling ransomware, which has ripped through 150 countries and already affected some 200,000 computers - including critical NHS systems - is a "wake up call", the technology giant warned.
