After almost 83 days of treatment under Dr Muffazal Lakdawala, Chairman, Institute of Minimal Access Surgical Sciences & Research Centre, Saifee Hospital, she now weighs around 171 kgs.
He further alleged that Saifee hospital also refused "bed-to-bed" transfer, wherein a patient is lifted from her/his bed to the bed provided by the new hospital in the hospital room itself.
Previously, Shaimaa had yelled at Dr Muffazal Lakdawala, Ahmed's concerned bariatric surgeon, and the hospital, blaming them of giving her sister medicine overdose to make her brain dead. Apparently, Selim gave Abd El Aty water, a move that could have threatened her health.
Doctors from Abu Dhabi, where Ms Ahmed was flown to, were present for her release from Saifee Hospital. Her genetic tests had showed that she has a rare gene mutation that can not be cured through surgery. The latter had been approached by Ms. Selim after she fell out with Dr. Lakdawala, and it is where Ms. Ahmed will continue her treatment.
Refuting the allegations, Aparna Bhaskar, section chief of bariatric surgery at Saifee Hospital, had said that Shaimaa may be criticising the doctors to extend her sister's stay at the hospital. "This is the crux of her issue with the Indian doctors and hospital", he said in the blog. Ahmed had not been able to step out of her house in over 20 years until she was taken out for treatment, forced by a stroke that left her partially paralyzed.
Still, doctors went ahead with the treatments which included an all liquid diet and a bariatric surgery which led to a reported loss of more than 240 kilograms, or about 530 pounds.
