"We are very grateful for her service and wish her the very best", a White House official said.
In his latest act attempting to purge the legacy of President Barack Obama from the White House and America, Donald Trump has fired chief White House usher Angella Reid, the first woman and second African-American to hold the position.
Specifically, she said that Reid was let go "on very good terms", and said there was "nothing more" to the firing than standard turnover between administrations.
Residence staff learned of the dismissal on Friday morning, the Washington Post reported.
"For the staff, she was a little tough on them because they could be free-wheeling", said a former White House official, who is frequently in touch with the residence staff and requested anonymity to describe the personnel situation. Presidential historian Douglas Brinkley is cited in the Post article as calling Reid's unceremonious dismissal highly unusual-especially without any explanation for the firing being provided. This is a job that usually survives administrations.

"I think it's best if the White House explains", was all Reid herself would say when contacted by the press about her notable absence from the residence staff.
Reid made history when she took the job in 2011. "The permanent staff averages 25 years - one staffer was there for 50 years".
Cruelty? In Donald Trump's White House? He told CNN that the Trump transition team asked him to return as chief usher, but he turned them down.
Reid joined the White House from the Ritz-Carlton hotel chain. "Otherwise it comes off as cruel". Yeah, right! Like Donald Trump's White House would ever do anything callous and cold-hearted and likely fuelled by the paranoia that Angela Reid was an Obama loyalist intent on stealing Trump's Twitter password and wiretapping his flower vases. "You just come on board and you have to click, in the past it would not have occurred to [a first family] to make a change at the top like that".
