Not much information is available for the startup at the moment. Building a team of battery experts to kick off a new startup would allow Tesla to explore the recycling potential of battery and other manufacturing byproducts to truly re-think the entire process, as it has done with almost every other piece of its business to date. And speaking of Tesla, rumor has it that there's another new venture in the works.
"Given Tesla's ambitious plans to scale its manufacturing for new auto models and volume, materials efficiencies and innovation could be key to the company's efforts", CB Insights wrote.

Redwood Materials did not disclose any direct link with Tesla. According to the report, Straubel has a track record of investing in companies without any connection with Tesla. The serial entrepreneur has been very busy lately, what with SpaceX's recent accomplishments and the latest developments in Tesla. Straubel, who is overseeing the supply chain at Tesla's Gigafactory in Nevada, has also expressed interest in mineral recycling.
