These two file pictures obtained from the Arkansas Department of Corrections and created on March 17, 2017 shows death row inmates Jack Harold Jones (L) and Marcel W Williams (R) who the southern state of Arkansas executed late Monday, April 24, 2017.
Jones was administered drugs at 7:06 p.m. CT and pronounced dead at 7:20 p.m. CT.
After exhausting all options for appeals and requests for Stays of Execution, citing health problems and fear of possible cruel and unusual punishment, Jones and Williams eventually both died by lethal injection. Williams was declared dead after he was administered the same injection about three hours later, at 10:33 p.m. EDT, following denial by federal and state courts of last-minute appeals to stay the executions. It argued that Williams, who weighs 400 pounds, could have faced a "torturous" death because of his weight.
Four other inmates, all of whom had been slated to die this month before a drug used in the deadly execution cocktail expires, have been spared - at least temporarily. Another execution is set to take place on Thursday. Ahead of Monday night, Jones's lawyers had argued his medical condition was likely to reduce the sedative's effectiveness, leading to an unconstitutionally painful death, but this argument was rejected by a court.
The last time a U.S. state executed two inmates on the same day was in 2000 in Texas.
A spokesman for the Arkansas prison system, Solomon Graves, said he inherited a policy that limits what can be heard from the death chamber. Jones had been convicted in 1996 for rape and murder of Mary Phillips. She was strangled to death with a coffee pot cord while daughter Lacey was tied to a chair.
As lawyers for condemned inmates press the case for delay in state and lower federal courts, the Supreme Court receives information about developments and, eventually, copies of those decisions.
They "did not wait 5 minutes to perform the consciousness check". Williams also had fried chicken and potato logs, along with banana pudding, nachos with chili cheese and jalapenos and Mountain Dew.

'Clear Air Turbulence' Injures 25 Aboard Boeing 777
More than two dozen passengers were injured when a flight headed from Moscow to Bangkok hit unexpected and powerful turbulence. None of the passengers have been found to suffer life-threatening injuries, Aeroflot also said in its official statement.
Jones ate three pieces of fried chicken, potato logs with tartar sauce, beef jerky bites, three Butterfinger candy bars, a chocolate milkshake with Butterfinger pieces and fruit punch.
Marcel Williams, 46, was on death row for raping and killing a 22-year-old woman named Stacy Errickson in 1994.
Midazolam, a sedative used as part of the three-drug protocol, was used in flawed executions in Oklahoma and Arizona, where witnesses said the inmates writhed in apparent pain on the gurney.
Williams' trial lawyers failed to investigate and present to the jury details of his "nightmarish" childhood and made many other "numerous" mistakes during his capital murder trial, according to Laura Burstein, communications consultant with the Squire Patton Boggs law firm based in Cleveland.
Last month, an Amnesty International report said the US has fallen outside of the top five countries for executions, for the first time since 2006.
Prison officials spent 40 minutes placing IV lines in an Arkansas inmate whose attorneys had argued that his weight could complicate his lethal injection.
It's unclear whether the concerns over Jones' execution could pose challenges for the state's plan to execute Kenneth Williams on Friday.
Twenty were executed a year ago, down from 98 in 1999 and the lowest number since 14 in 1991.
