Meanwhile, when two Tu-95 bombers breached the ADIZ on Monday, NORAD scrambled two F-22 fighters from Elmendorf Air Force Base to intercept the Russian jets. According to Navy Commander Gary Ross, a Pentagon Spokesman, a pair of F-22 Raptors had a "safe and professional" intercept with the bombers.
After the two Russian bombers were tailed for 12 minutes, they return back to their eastern Russia base.
This is the first time, when Russian bombers performed a demonstration flight so close to USA shores during the presidency of Donald Trump.
It is unclear if these were the same planes that were intercepted by the F-22s on Monday, but defense officials told CNN that it was a separate violation.
For a second night in a row, Russian bombers flew within miles of Alaska in an apparent show of intimidation. In February, a group of Russian jets buzzed a USA destroyer in the Black Sea and the US accused Russia of secretly deploying cruise missiles capable of carrying a nuclear warhead in violation of a major arms-control treaty.
